How Do Surgical Extractions Work?

What Are the Instructions After Having a Tooth Pulled?

It’s normal to bleed for about 30 minutes after an extraction. For up to an hour, you should keep the gauze pad in place, which the dentist put over the site. Limit your diet to soft foods for the day and don’t chew on the side where you had the tooth removed. Pick nutritious foods that will help you heal, and avoid alcohol and spicy foods. To avoid dislodging the blood, don’t smoke, use a straw or rinse vigorously. We will explain what to do if you experience any discomfort or swelling.

How Many Days Does Tooth Extraction Healing Take?

Following your dentist’s instructions will allow you to resume your normal routine quickly. Limit your activities for the first 24 hours and rest with your head elevated. You can expect the site to heal within a week to 10 days if you have a simple extraction. If you have a molar pulled, it may take a few days longer to heal. If you had an oral surgeon remove the tooth, the site will take more time to heal.
