New Baltimore, MI: Our Community

New Baltimore, Michigan, is located in Macomb County, and it is a suburb of Detroit. Situated on the shore of Lake St. Clair, New Baltimore has plenty to offer both residents and tourists in the area. The population of New Baltimore is just more than 12,000. New Baltimore History

French trappers and hunters were among the first European inhabitants of the land that would become Macomb County. They ventured into the area and settled along the water, establishing farms. The first community was created in 1845, named the village of Ashley after Alfred Ashley, who mapped out the land. Businesses opened in the village of Ashley in what is now part of downtown New Baltimore. New Baltimore became an incorporated village in 1867 and a city in 1931. The close proximity to the waterfront helped make New Baltimore a bustling place of commerce.
