What’s the Function of a Tooth Filling?
A tooth filling is used to restore the functionality of your tooth or teeth. When installing a filling, your dentist will first remove the decayed area and disinfect it. Then, we’ll fill the cavity with porcelain, amalgam, gold or another material. Filling the decayed portion of the tooth provides protection from further decay and fixes the current problem. It will also enable you to use your tooth again without pain or discomfort. If you need a dental filling, then call our office for an appointment.
What Are Bridges and Dental Crowns?
Both dental crowns and bridges are permanently installed dental prosthetic devices that help to repair or replace damaged teeth. They’re not removable. Rather, they’re permanently affixed to your teeth using a high-bond cement that can only be removed by a dentist. Crowns are sometimes called dental caps because they cap the entire exterior of your tooth. If you’re missing one or more teeth, then your dentist may recommend a bridge. A bridge is made up of one or more pontics that are secured by abutment teeth, which can be either natural teeth or implants. If you need a bridge to compensate for missing teeth, then call our Detroit office for an appointment and we’ll help you regain your good dental health.
Do General Dentists Provide Bridges, Crowns and Tooth Fillings?
All general dentists are licensed to provide bridges, crowns and tooth fillings, and they can advise you if you need additional dental restorative treatments. If you’re looking for a well-qualified dentist in the Detroit area, then call us. We’re known in the area for restorative dentistry and we’d love to help you regain your good oral health.
How Much Does a Filling, Crown or Dental Bridge Cost?
Dental appliances are custom made for each patient, so your dental crown cost or the cost of any other dental work you have will be unique to you. Factors that will affect your final cost include the scope of work that you need, the materials you select, the location of the work to be done and any insurance that you have. During your initial consultation, we’ll provide you with a detailed breakdown of the work that you need and your bridge, tooth crown or tooth filling cost, but if you need more information, call our Detroitoffice and we can help you.
What Choices Do I Have for a Dental Filling?
Several types of fillings are available, and some work better than others for specific applications. Our most popular filling types include porcelain, gold, tooth-colored composite, and amalgam. You and your dentist will decide on the type that’s best for you during your appointment, so call us if you need to schedule a consultation.
What Choices Do I Have for Tooth Crowns?
Crowns are available in several materials, including ceramic, gold, porcelain-fused-to-metal, and alloy. Different materials are more suitable for certain applications and your dentist will recommend the most suitable type of tooth crown for your needs.
What Choices Do I Have for Dental Bridges?
Several types of bridges are available depending on your needs and the location of the bridge. A traditional bridge uses a fabricated crown at either side or either end of a pontic or row of pontics, and the crown affixes the bridge to the abutment teeth on either side of the bridge. If only one side has an abutment tooth, then a cantilever bridge can be used. A cantilever bridge, however, isn’t suitable for the back teeth.
What Will Happen When I Get a Crown Installed?
Three steps and two appointments are involved in getting crowns for teeth. During your first appointment, your dentist will prepare your tooth and prep the area. We’ll then take an impression of the area, and this will be used to make your permanent crown. We’ll provide you with a temporary crown to use until your permanent crown arrives in our office. When we receive it, you’ll return, we’ll adjust the crown for fit and comfort, and then we’ll affix it in place using a high-bond cement. You’ll need 30 minutes to an hour for each step.
What Will Happen When I Get a Tooth Bridge Installed?
You’ll need two appointments to get a tooth bridge installed. During the first appointment, your dentist will prepare the abutment teeth and take an impression of the area, which will serve as a model for your permanent bridge. We’ll provide you with a temporary bridge to use until your permanent bridge arrives in our office. When we receive it back from the lab, you’ll return to our office. We’ll adjust your permanent bridge for fit and comfort, and then permanently install it. If you need a bridge, then call our Detroit office for an appointment.
